Hey Guys,
I thought I'd let you know that Solomon died tonight. I'm sorry to tell you this through e-mail since it's pretty impersonal, but the only way to do it when I'm a bit sad and it's very late at night.
He'd been doing fairly well but obviously on a steady decline the past couple of weeks. I got home from work a bit early today and the weather was nice so Emma actually took him for a long walk and he did just fine.
However, at dinner time, Joel shouted at us "Solomon is coughing and spitting blood!" which he wasn't but he was foaming at the mouth but wide awake. He seemed to be fine and I thought he was just choking on his food or something.
Fortunately for us, Matt came into town tonight and gave Emma and I a chance to go out together for the first time in months. We went out for dinner and to a book store (as usual) and when we came back, Joel was sleeping in our bed (actually reading a book sneakily since Matt fell asleep on the sofa) and I put him back to sleep. When I came out of the room, Emma said it looked like Solomon was having a seizure. It lasted about 15 seconds and then he seemed fine - I wasn't sure it was a seizure. Then we watched a tv show with Matt.
After it was over, Emma decided she was going to bed. Solomon got up and started to have a seizure again, lasting a bit longer. So, we decided things didn't seem like they weren't going to get any better, so we looked up which vet was open and nearby.
On the way, he had another seizure in the car and then 3 more in the vet office. They were lasting longer and he really looked uncomfortable. They put in an iv, gave him some sedative, and we could just feel the pain and tension release from him. After another medication, he was gone.
It wasn't easy to make this decision tonight but are we ever thankful that Matt was here with us so Joel didn't have to be involved in any of this tonight. We're not really looking forward to the morning to have to tell him what has happened, but everything will be okay.
Solomon is now much more comfortable, happy, and I'm sure bounding through snow in doggie heaven with a big smile on his face.
Sorry again to have to share this with you guys, but thought you'd want to know.
Love
Aaron
