Instructions for a Stressed or Possibly Diseased Lily
- Cut off the worst brown or spotted leaves.
- Throw the removed leaves in the trash. Do not compost them.
- Do not water the plant from above. Water only at the soil level.
- Check underneath the leaves for pests.
- Look especially for aphids, little red lily beetles, or black slimy larvae.
- Clean your scissors or pruners after cutting this plant.
- Do not use the same dirty scissors or pruners on other lilies.
- Watch the plant for the rest of the season.
- If this is the only lily showing these symptoms, do not panic. It may just be stressed.
- If the plant becomes more mottled, twisted, streaky, or weak next year, remove the whole bulb and throw it in the trash.
- Keep an eye on nearby lilies to see whether they also develop yellow mottling or streaking.
